FULL PRESS BIO / FEATURE STORY
After six months of writing, composing, recording, producing, singing, mixing, and mastering, Dallas artist Donovan Lord has released KISMET, a 15-track album that transforms one of the most intense emotional chapters of his life into music.
At its heart, KISMET is a love story between two men.
The album chronicles Donovan’s romantic life before Charlie, the arrival of a relationship that felt destined, the emotional highs and wounds that followed, a painful period of separation, and the complicated but deeply human journey back toward love. While the record is intensely personal, its themes are universal: longing, devotion, rupture, regret, forgiveness, sexuality, grief, healing, and the hope that love can survive what nearly breaks it.
For LGBTQIA+ audiences, KISMET offers something still too rarely centered in mainstream pop storytelling: a mature same-sex love story told from the inside. This is not a coded romance, a background subplot, or a vague love song made gender-neutral to be commercially safe. It is a direct, emotional, spiritual, and unapologetically queer account of one gay man trying to make sense of love, pain, destiny, and transformation.
The title KISMET means fate or destiny, and that idea runs through the entire album. Donovan weaves together modern pop production, dark electronic textures, mystical imagery, sensuality, and Kabbalah-inspired symbolism to explore the invisible threads that seem to pull certain people into our lives. The album asks: What if some love stories are not random? What if the people who change us most are the ones we were always meant to encounter?
Charlie, the man at the center of much of the album, listened to it on the day it was released and was deeply moved by the project. He recognized the pain, beauty, and complexity of their relationship in the songs, telling Donovan he was blown away by the fact that no one had ever created anything like that about him before.
That response reflects the emotional power of KISMET. It is not just an album about being in love. It is an album about being changed by love.
The record moves through desire, mysticism, conflict, separation, and reconciliation. Songs like “Last Lover Alive,” “KISMET,” “BIRDS OF A FEATHER,” “STILL,” and “EVERY LIFE” create a narrative arc that feels both intimate and cinematic. Some tracks are sensual and electronic. Others are aching and spiritual. Together, they form a queer romantic odyssey about two men trying to find their way through fate, fear, hurt, and hope.
For Donovan, KISMET is also a statement of artistic identity. A longtime creative with a background in architecture, interior design, writing, and music, he approached the album as more than a collection of songs. It is a fully realized emotional and visual world — part love letter, part confession, part spiritual reckoning.
The album speaks directly to anyone who has loved deeply, lost painfully, questioned whether a connection was meant to survive, or wondered whether love can return in a different form after everything has fallen apart.
KISMET is now available on Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, and all major streaming outlets.
ARTIST STATEMENT
“KISMET is the most personal music I have ever created. It tells the story of my love life before Charlie and after Charlie, and how one relationship completely changed the way I understood love, pain, destiny, and myself.
As a gay man, I wanted to tell this story honestly. I didn’t want to hide the gender of the person I was singing about or make the songs vague so they would feel safer. This album is about a same-sex love story — the beauty of it, the heartbreak of it, the desire, the conflict, the healing, and the feeling that some people come into your life because they are meant to.
Charlie and I went through an incredibly painful chapter, but the music helped me process it. Some songs came from longing. Some came from anger. Some came from grief. Some came from hope. But all of them came from love.
When Charlie listened to the album, he told me he was blown away because no one had ever done anything like that about him before. That meant a lot to me, because even though the album is now out in the world, it began as something very intimate — a way to understand what we had been through and what it meant.
For me, KISMET is about the invisible thread between two people. It is about the question of whether love is random or destined. It is about whether two people can hurt each other, lose each other, and still find their way back in a more conscious way.
This album is my heart, my pain, my spirituality, my sexuality, and my belief that love can transform us if we are brave enough to face what it reveals.”

WHY THIS STORY MATTERS TO LGBTQIA+ MEDIA
KISMET is especially relevant for LGBTQIA+ publications because it centers a queer love story with emotional seriousness, maturity, and spiritual depth.

The album explores themes that resonate deeply within LGBTQIA+ life:
The longing to be loved fully and openly
The emotional intensity of chosen relationships
The fear of losing a love that feels destined
The complexity of queer intimacy after trauma
The healing power of being seen by another man
The courage it takes to make private love public through art
The spiritual dimension of queer love and connection
This is not only a music release. It is a Dallas LGBTQIA+ human-interest story about art, vulnerability, visibility, and the way queer love can become a creative force.
